Eduardo Souto de Moura

Born in Oporto, Portugal, on the 25 th of July, 1952. Graduated from the School of Architecture of Oporto (ESBAP) in 1980. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of Oporto (FAUP) from 1981 to 1991.
Worked with the architect Álvaro Siza from 1974 to 1979. Own office since 1980. Visitor Professor in Paris-Belleville, Harvard, Dublin, Zurich and Lausanne. Attended seminars in Portugal, Spain, Great-Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Yuguslavia, United States, Netherlands, Ireland, Canada and Norway. Work exhibited in Portugal (Oporto, Lisbon, Braga), France (Paris biennale, Clermond-Ferrand, Bordeaux), Great Britain (London, Cambridge), Italy (Milan triennale, Rom), Yuguslavia (Pirano), United States (New-York, Harvard), Switzerland (Zurich).

1981 1st prize on the competition for the Cultural Center of the S.E.C.in Oporto
1982 1st prize on the competition for the restructuring of the main square in Évora

1986 1st prize on the competition for the C.I.A.C. pavilions
1987 1st prize on the competition for a Hotel in Salzburg
1990 1st prize (ex-aequo) on the IN/ARCH 1990 per la Sicilia

National Awards for Architecture - Honorable Mention for the Cultural Center and the House in Alcanena.
1995 International Prize for Stone in Architecture 1995 - Fiera di Verona, for the House in "Bom Jesus",Braga.
1996 Annual award of the Portuguese Department of the International Association of Art Critics, for the building in Rua do Teatro.
